Blue-free light bulbs help you get better sleep

Do you feel like you're not getting good quality sleep?  Your bedside lamp might be to blame.

"When you ask the average person, 'Did you sleep well last night?' Fifty percent of people said they slept poorly," says Dr. Joel Kahn, a cardiologist with Michigan Healthcare Professionals.

We used to rely on the sunshine to wake us up and tell us when to go to sleep, but now artificial lighting is sending our brain's the wrong message.

"In any white light there are blue wavelengths, the blue wavelengths act on the back of your eyeball and go directly to your brain and say stay awake, stay alert, do active things," Kahn explains.

If you want sleep, your body needs to make the sleep hormone melatonin. Your body won't do that until you get rid of the blue wavelength. Certain 'goodnight' light bulbs get rid of the wavelength for you.
"It filters the blue light out, so this light bulb will go in your nightstand while you're reading to fall asleep, and all your brain senses is, it's time to rest," says Kahn.

The specialty light bulb is costs around 70 dollars, so if you can't afford to make that switch remember candlelight or even red light gets rid of the blue wavelengths.

The company even makes tablet filters to get rid of the blue light coming from your electronics.
