MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A firefighter was injured Monday battling a two-alarm fire in Merrillville, Ind., that appears to have been intentionally set.

Firefighters responded about 5:30 a.m. to a two-story home in the 900 block of West 62nd Avenue in Merrillville, said Merrillville Fire Chief Ed Yerga.

The fire originated on the second floor of a vacant home under renovation, and flames broke through the roof of the home, Yerga said.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated and released, Yerga said.
