Sharpton in Chicago to address gun violence

CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

The Rev. Al Sharpton says he's rented an apartment in Chicago where he will stay a day or two each week to address gun violence in the city.

Sharpton said Sunday in a news conference on Chicago's West Side that he'd be working with groups and pastors. He appeared with pastors in the city's Austin neighborhood, which has been hit hard by violence.

The civil rights activist and talk show host and leads the National Action Network. He says his aim is to "give a limelight" to those who have struggled with gun violence and are working daily on the ground to improve city neighborhoods.

Chicago has a high homicide race compared with other major U.S. cities, even though the number is down compared with last year.
