CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man from the Hermosa neighborhood admitted violently shaking, squeezing and hitting his nearly two-month-old daughter, prosecutors said.

Dmel R. Hughes, 25, of the 1800 block of North Karlov Avenue, has been charged with aggravated battery of a child, the Sun-Times is reporting. He appeared in bond court Sunday, where Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered him held without bail.

Assistant State's Attorney Anthony Lucafo said the girl was taken Thursday to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

There, Lucafo said, doctors found the girl's injuries included a left skull fracture, a lack of oxygen to the brain, fractured ribs, a fracture to her right collarbone, and corner fractures on her left shoulder and right femur. She also suffered seizures and had elevated enzymes in her liver and pancreas, as well as a burn on her tongue.

Lucafo said Hughes admitted he shook the girl violently, yanked her right leg, threw her onto a bed head-first and into a television remote control, squeezed her so hard she passed out and hit her head on a doorknob.
