CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One hundred lucky Chicago teens were treated to a Youth Empowerment weekend with Chicago Bulls' star Nazr Mohammed and his wife Mandi. The two day gathering kicked off today inside the Frances Parker School in Lincoln Park.

"This is just something that is close to my heart as far as just realizing, just letting the kids know how close they are to their dreams if they put in the hard work and dedication and giving them the tools to do those things," said Mohammed.

Mohammed's wife, Mandi, is the Director of The Nazr Mohammed Foundation.

"Growing up my parents instilled that in me to always help, to always give back and do whatever I can do," said Mandi Mohammed.

Many of the teenagers who were involved live in violence plagued neighborhoods. The Bulls star says the goal is to motivate the youth to be their best, be confident in who they are and become positive role models among their peers.

The weekend retreat brought together a diverse group of teens to explore and discuss a variety of topics relevant in their daily lives. Teens who were selected to participate in the "Dream Chaser" themed Village Project participated in a variety of workshops, seminars and a town hall meeting with community leaders.
