India-based company to open Ga. plant

SYLVANIA, Ga. (AP) - An Indian textile manufacturing company has announced plans to build its first American plant in southeastern Georgia.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced Tuesday that the Mumbai-based ShriVallabh Pittie Group is investing $70 million to build its plant in Screven County and plans to employ 250 people.

Deal says the plant will produce carded cotton yarn products.

The company was founded in 1898 and operates plants in 13 locations.

Chairman of the company, Vinod Pittie, says company officials see an opportunity for growth in Georgia because of a skilled workforce and reliable infrastructure.
