CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two people were critically hurt in a shooting in the South Side Englewood neighborhood Monday evening.

The shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of 66th and Peoria streets, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight said.

Two males were hurt, Knight said. Paramedics took one person to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and the other to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Both were in serious-to-critical condition, Knight said.

One of the males had been shot in the abdomen, while the other suffered a graze wound to the head, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said. Circumstances surrounding the attack were not yet known.

Area South detectives are investigating.
