CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An infant suffered an injury and died Sunday in southwest suburban Oak Lawn, police said.

Police responded to a call of an armed subject in the 6600 block of 91st street in Oak Lawn about 10:45 a.m. Sunday, and while enroute officers received information that an infant child had "suffered a significant injury," according to a statement from the Oak Lawn Police department.

After life support measures were preformed on the scene, the infant was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where the child was pronounced dead at 1:48 p.m., police said.

Police believe the parents left the infant in the care of a relative and were not in the house at the time of the incident.

Police are releasing few specifics, but after relatives indicated a family member was involved in the death, that individual was taken into custody as Oak Lawn Police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force investigated.
