Counties to receive $3M in transportation improvements

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Several counties will receive $3.2 million in state capital investments to repair infrastructure in Bureau, DeKalb, Grundy, Kendall and LaSalle counties, Gov. Pat Quinn announced Saturday.

The Illinois Jobs Now! capital investments are in addition to the $18.5 million in annual motor fuel tax revenues these municipalities are scheduled to receive this year, Quinn stated in a release.

"Local communities in this area will see an increase of about 17 percent in resources they need to immediately move forward and address critical needs, create jobs, and support economic growth," Quinn said.

The $3.2 million in funds is part of the fourth in a series of annual grants that have come to municipalities for transportation projects under the Illinois Jobs Now! program since 2010, the release said.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will provide oversight of the projects, which will be selected and managed locally, the release said.
