Police: Armed robberies with hammer in Lakeview

Police are searching for several people who have committed at least three armed robberies with a hammer in the last four months in the North Side Lakeview neighborhood. All three robberies occurred between midnight and 3:45 a.m., police said. In each case, between one and six people approached the victim on the sidewalk. They threaten the person with a hammer and demand property. In one case, a victim was hit in the leg with the hammer, according to an alert issued by police.

The robberies occurred:

—Between 3-3:45 a.m. on May 22 in the 2800 block of North Southport. The suspect was described as a black man between 19 and 21, between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-1. He weighed between 170-180 pounds. He had a black faded-top hairstyle and small gap in his two front teeth.— 12 a.m. on Aug. 22 in the 600 block of West Buckingham Place. The suspects were described as a 19-year-old Hispanic man, who stood 5-foot-5 and weighed 120 pounds. He had a light complexion and a black ponytail. The other suspect was a 22-year-old man who stood 5-foot-11, weighed 140 and had black dreadlocks.

— 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 30 in the 3000 block of North Seminary. Six people were seen getting out of a sedan. One was a Hispanic man 19-21 who stood 6 feet and weighed 145. He had an olive complexion and wore a black, hooded sweatshirt. Another suspect was described as a black man 19-22 who stood 6-foot-1 and weighed 16. He was wearing a white jacket.
