Police: Strong armed robberies increase in River North

Police are warning people in River North of a recent increase in strong armed robberies.

A man and woman approach people walking on the sidewalk and punch or push them to the ground, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives. The pair then take the victims' personal property and run away.

The attacks happened about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 22 in the 400 block of North Wabash Avenue, about 1:45 a.m. Sept. 13 in the 0-99 block of East Illinois Street and about 11 p.m. Sept. 18 in the 0-99 block of East Ohio Street, police said.

One suspect is described as a 25- to 35-year-old black man with a medium complexion, police said. He is 5-foot-8 to 6-feet tall, 150 to 160 pounds. The other is described as a 25- to 35-year-old black woman with a medium complexion and long black hair. She is 5-foot-6 to 6-foot-1 and 180 to 190 pounds.

They may be driving a dark, four-door vehicle, police said.
