DETROIT (WJBK) -

A female Fox Terrier, now known as Patty, is recovering from surgery after she was found late Thursday afternoon with a large patch of fur skinned from her neck and a stab wound to her side.

Joanne Dixon, a rep from the animal rescue group Providing for Paws, says the dog underwent surgery at an veterinary hospital in Ann Arbor. Dixon described Patty's condition as 'touch and go.'

We're told the dog's fur could not be reattached to her skin but she is expected to survive.

A southwest Detroit resident first spotted the dog as Patty approached her front porch. The witness says she noticed a large patch of fur hanging from the dog's neck which was bleeding at the time. She called Detroit Police, who contacted Providing For Paws.

"Her skin was hanging off the side her body and was clean cut from the back of her neck to her ears. This was not an accident. The cuts are perfect and deliberate," said Dixon. "Someone owned and loved this dog. Her nails are painted."

If you have any information about Patty, who may be lost or stolen, contact Providing for Paws at 734-765-8989.

Donations can also be made to Patty online at www.providingforpaws.org.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information on the cause of Patty's injuries.
