Electric Run 5k lights up Chicago for a good cause

Posted: Updated:

Runners are lighting up parts of downtown Chicago for a good cause Friday night.

Race organizers have teamed up with Special Olympics Chicago for the Electric Run. The family-friendly event brought a glow-in-the-dark 5K to McCormick Place for the first time.

Some expressed their most bizarre styles all lit up, while adults and children ran to the beats of dance music.

"We were training a little bit, but we're gonna take it easy and we're going to enjoy the sights," one participant said. "We're here just to have a good time."

It's something these runners are thrilled to be a part of.

"The group that's here tonight is young they're motivated," says Special Olympics Chicago's Susan Nicholl. "It's a new audience for us frankly, it's a great new concept and we're thrilled that our city is hosting it and its going to be such a widely successful event."

Organizers are hoping they can bring the Electric Run back to Chicago for many more years to come.
