Detroit court protestors: "War on workers" has got to stop

Posted: Updated:

Detroit's 36th District Court employees say they haven't gotten a raise in six years. They saw dozens of fellow coworkers get laid-off this summer. Now, they're all facing a 10% pay cut and higher health care costs.

Some employees held a protest outside Wednesday afternoon.

Since the Supreme Court appointed Judge Michael Talbot to oversee the 36th district, he's laid off dozens of workers and outsourced some services to cut costs. An attorney for Judge Talbot says some workers make more than $40,000, and the new insurance plan will actually save money in most cases. He says the suggested pay cut is also the same pay cut other city workers are taking.
