CLARKSTON, Mich. (WJBK) -

An Oakland woman says she's one of the patients intentionally misdiagnosed by Dr. Farid Fata, a Mich. cancer specialist arrested by the feds last month.

Patty Hester says she remembers exactly how Dr. Fata told her she had Myelodysplastic syndrome, a disease in which the bone marrow does not make enough healthy blood cells. It's known as a precursor to Leukemia with no known cure.

Hester says Dr. Fata pressured her to undergo a more costly and invasive form of treatment all while reminding her that MDS could lead to an early grave. "He said, 'you know, if you don't die from leukemia, you're going to die from a secondary infection because you have MDS and there's no cure unless you start doing something to get a bone marrow transplant,'" said Hester.

A transplant was exactly what Hester planned on having until the FBI raided Fata's offices last month and charged the 48-year-old with fraud, accusing him of deliberately misdiagnosing patients and ordering chemotherapy for others who were in remission or had no chance of surviving, all to reap millions from the Medicare program.

Hester says she found another oncologist, who told her she was misdiagnosed and did not suffer from MDS. "I was excited, but then this anger, this rage came over me. I was so mad," said Hester. "How could you do that to anyone? And my family?"

Hester has hired several attorneys, who plan to file a civil lawsuit against Fata.

Fata, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, is being held at the Wayne County jail on a $9 million bond.
