Barrow: Shutdown threat over health law 'reckless'

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia congressman is still defying fellow Democrats and Republicans on President Barack Obama's health care overhaul three years after it became law.

Democratic Rep. John Barrow of Augusta says he won't join House Republicans pushing to deny funding for the health care law or shut down the government when Congress returns Sept. 9. However, Barrow was 1 of just four Democrats who sided with GOP lawmakers Aug. 2 when the House voted to gut a key part of the Affordable Care Act granting enforcement powers to the Internal Revenue Service.

Barrow represents eastern Georgia's Republican-leaning 12th District, where he faces re-election in 2014.

Critics say Barrow tries to have it both ways on health care. He voted against passage of the 2010 law but won't support a full repeal.
