Atlanta police say a child was hit and killed by an SUV on Friday evening in a parking lot along Campbellton Road.  Authorities and friends of the little boy's family say it was a pure, terrible accident.

According to an APD spokesperson, it happened around 5:45 p.m.   Police say the 3-year-old was riding a tricycle when he was hit-- as his parents and friends watched helplessly.   The driver of the SUV was backing out of a parking space at the Halal Meat and Fish Market, and didn't see the child peddling in the parking lot.

The child, Dawda Mangsumba, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, but did not survive.

Police say no charges will be filed against the driver.
