Pike Nurseries: Adding Fall Touches to the Garden

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

While the weather finally feels like summer, we're now seeing signs of fall fever everywhere! From the start of football to autumn pins trending on Pinterest, the fall season is fast approaching. Even with the warm weather, you can start adding some fall touches to your garden.

Zinnias
 - They are more commonly known as summer flowers, but zinnias will keep blooming until the first frost
 - They come in a rainbow of colors, but the yellow or orange zinnias will help tie into other fall décor in your yard or garden

Mums/Chrysanthemum
 - Mums are the most traditional fall flower
 - Available in the colors of fall: burgundy, burnt orange and various tones of gold
 - Use in the landscape or in a container garden
 - As blooms on mums fade, pinch off the dead blooms and continue to fertilize to add more blooms.

Ornamental Grass
 - There are tons of different types of ornamental grasses that work in just about any area of the landscape
 - Some ornamental grasses are starting to get their plumes that tend to be associated with fall

Ornamental Peppers
 - Peppers are a fun addition to the garden for their unique color: choose from orange, yellow and even purple peppers
 - If you have some plants in your container garden that didn't make it through the summer, replace them with ornamental peppers to start getting into fall

Crotons
 - Crotons are known for their fun, colorful foliage
 - Crotons are commonly used as a houseplant, but their color makes them perfect for fall gardens
