Energy savings equal big bucks with Georgia Power

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Georgia Power is giving away money. Well, sort of.

"Customers can receive up to $2,200 in rebates and can save up to 30 percent in energy savings over the course of a year," said Georgia Power spokesman Brian Green.

Sounds pretty good, huh? But even if you're not interested in their Whole House Program, maybe you need a new clothes washer? Well, there's a $50 rebate for Energy Star-certified machines.

There are also rebates for refrigerators, freezers and window-unit air conditioners that carry the Energy Star label.

It gets even better if you're replacing that old fridge or freezer. Georgia Power will pay you to let them haul off the old one.

"The company will come out to the customer's home, pick up their secondary refrigerator or freezer for free and give the customer a $50 rebate," said Green.

Now maybe you're not in the market to replace an appliance, but you can also save money by using something almost everyone needs -- light bulbs.  Replace the old incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent bulb. This is one of their easiest rebate programs.

"With this incentive, customers can save between $3-$6 on select four-pack florescent compact light bulbs," Green said.

Green added that customers don't have to send back any paperwork to take advantage of the discount.

"They can just go in the store and receive the savings at the register," he said.
