Elderly pedestrian fatally struck in hit-and-run, police seek driver: Alert

Police searching for a motorist who fled the scene of an accident after fatally striking an elderly pedestrian in the West Ridge neighborhood Tuesday evening have issued an alert looking for witnesses.

Norman Davis Esho, 83, was in a crosswalk in the 2800 block of West Devon Avenue about 6:22 p.m. when the SUV hit him, authorities said.

He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was pronounced dead at 7 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The SUV is described as a maroon or red full-size Chevrolet or GMC-type vehicle with shiny custom rims; it drove away south on California Avenue after the crash, according to the alert.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has seen a vehicle matching the description should call the Major Accident Investigation Unit at (312) 745-4521.
