DETROIT (WJBK) -

Former Detroit mayoral candidate Lisa Howze took to social media Wednesday to question whether an invasion at her home was payback for endorsing Mike Duggan.

Howze posted on her Facebook page that thieves kicked in her back door and stole $53 from a room on the first floor. She later told police she hid under an upstairs bed during the incident.

"Do you think this was a coincidence?" Howze asked her Facebook fans, in regards to her earlier endorsement of former Detroit Medical Center CEO Mike Duggan for mayor.

When asked about the allegation later, Howze told FOX 2, "I don't know but I'll tell you when I first crawled under that bed that was the first thing that came to my mind. But you just never know."

Howze, a former state representative, received 5 percent of the vote in the August primary.

"This was a testament really to the condition of the city of Detroit because so many of our residents homes have been broken into," said Howze. "They're living in fear."

No suspects are in custody and police say the incident remains under investigation.
