GAINESVILLE, Ga. -

A police officer-involved shooting in the Gainesville area is reported after a woman fleeing a traffic stop struck at least one of two officers, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

FOX 5 Atlanta learned that police pulled over the woman, who drove a white passenger vehicle, on Skelton Road at Bowman Road about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. At one point, police say, the woman suddenly sped away striking at least one of the police officers on-scene.

The officers then opened fire. Police say the woman also struck two police cars before fleeing the scene.

Officers continued their search for the woman through 6 a.m., when a homeowner called to report there was a vehicle with an injured woman in it in her yard on Bennett Circle in Hall County. This would be about a half mile from the traffic stop.

When officers arrived at the Bennett Circle location, the found the woman who fled from the traffic stop. Police say she was taken to a local hospital for medical attention. Neither her name, nor her condition have been made public.

Police say she did appear to have at least one gunshot wound.
