A 1932 Ford Little Deuce Coupe is Jim Oleniczak's dream come true. He has wanted one since high school. Now that the mean red machine is finally his, Oleniczak brought it straight to Woodward.

Woodward Avenue, Detroit to Ponitac -

Thousands will jam Woodward Avenue in their 'rides' on Saturday and thousands more will pull up a lawn chair to watch them.  It's billed as the biggest party on wheels.  It's the Woodward Dream Cruise.

The event takes place each year on the third Saturday in August.

August 17th marks the 18th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise.  What started as essentially a backyard party to raise money for a soccer program in Ferndale has grown into a kind of 'Mecca' for classic car owners and fans of the gone by era of "Cruising."

It runs between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and rolls through 7 communities, starting in Detroit around 8 Mile Rd, heading north through Ferndale, Royal Oak, Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Township and Pontiac, ending in the loop around M-59.

Some residents in the community complain about the traffic on and around Woodward during the days and weekends leading up to the event.  Cleary there's more congestion when good summer weather urges cruisers to hit the strip and take a spin.  But the event motors on and seemingly grows more popular each year.  Today the festival on wheels has something to do for everyone, kids and adults.

There are events planned in every community that the cruise runs through on Friday and Saturday. Ferndale kicks things off Thursday. (Play video to see Amy Andrews report.)
