Union Station indoor park should make your wait a bit more fun

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Even been bored waiting for your train at Union Station? Commuters and visitors of all ages have been subject to this feeling at one point or another. But soon, that won't be a problem. Hopefully.

A temporary indoor park is in the works for Union Station, and 26 designers are in the running to get the job – architects and amateurs alike. The winning applicant will be able to make their idea come to life inside the Great Hall beginning Aug. 24.

The train hub hopes to draw more people into the station with the indoor park as well, offering soft grass to relax on, tetherball courts, hammocks, lawn chairs and picnic tables.

At least one rider told FOX 32 News that he would be willing to at least check it out when the park opens.

"It's an interesting idea if nothing else," he said, "just to get more people in there. Maybe a little more physical activity is good as opposed to just sitting around."

The great reveal is only nine days away. Stay tuned!
