CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A replacement has been named to replace Deborah Mell in the Illinois House of Representatives. Jaime Andrade Jr. was a long-time aide to Mell's father in the City Council.

Andrade was sworn in Monday night to replace Deb Mell, who vacated her 40th district seat earlier this year. Andrade was selected by ward committeemen to represent the 40th District. Dick Mell is still the powerful Democratic committeeman for his ward.

Deb Mell was sworn into City Council as new alderman for the 33rd ward, appointed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, after her father retired from the post after nearly 40 years.

The 40-year-old was former Alderman Mell's top aldermanic assistant for more than 15 years. He was selected over two other candidates.

Andrade is also the assistant sergeant of arms for the City Council, but said he will resign that post to focus on his new job.

The 40-year-old tells the Chicago Sun-Times that his legislative priorities will focus on education and housing.
