Teen escapes house fire in Shorewood

SHOREWOOD, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A teenager was able to escape a fire that severely damaged his house near southwest suburban Shorewood on Friday.

Troy Fire Deputy Chief Andy Doyle said the boy was home alone when he noticed the fire around 1:20 p.m. in the 900 block of Lynwood Court and called 911 from outside.

"Flames got into the walls...so it took 45 minutes to an hour before the fire was under control," Doyle said.

The house is currently uninhabitable.

Doyle said the cause of the fire was still being investigated but it does not appear suspicious.
