Suspicious package caused delays on Metra Electric Line

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A police investigation into a report of a suspicious package on Metra's Electric District Line tracks on the South Side Tuesday morning resulted in some delays for commuters.

A report of a suspicious package at 61st Street on the Electric District Line stopped trains as Metra police investigated, spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

Affected were outbound trains 215 and 315; and inbound trains 116 and 316. The delays ranged from 15 to 35 minutes, according to a Metra rider alert.

Additionally, inbound Train No. 318, scheduled to depart 93rd Street at 10:21 a.m., was delayed in departure because of a late arrival of equipment caused by the earlier police activity.

By about 10:30 a.m. the object had been removed from the tracks and trains were back on the move, Reile said, though there were some residual delays from the backed-up trains.
