ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Dozens of students from the University of Central Florida gathered on campus Thursday evening to honor the memory of Trayvon Martin.

The Dream Defenders organized the event held at the UCF Reflection Pond. They collaborated with members of the Mu Iota chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

"As soon as the gavel was dropped and the verdict was made it just ignited a fire amongst my chapter," said Tashauna Williams, President of the Miu Iota chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

The students sang, prayed, and marched in the rain.

Attorney Natalie Jackson also attended the event. She encouraged the young people to get involved. She told them to learn about the law, sign the NAACP's petition, and continue the conversation.

"The purpose of this event was not to automatically have something changed," said Williams. "We knew that it takes time. Laws need to be passed. Petitions need to be signed."
