LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A north suburban forest preserve has been closed until further notice after officials received a bomb threat in the mail, the Lake County News-Sun is reporting.

A concert in Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Libertyville featuring a Caribbean rock band was cut short Tuesday night after an announcement by a Lake County Forest Preserve District police officer to evacuate the park.

According to a statement from the Forest Preserves District, officials received a bomb threat directed to a specific target at Independence Grove, where all events and activities are suspended until further notice pending a complete investigation.

"We're going to get it open as fast as we can, however, we will continue to investigate as long as it takes," said Ranger Chief John Tannahill. "We will not open it until we determine that it is safe."

Federal authorities were notified immediately, including the U.S. Postal Investigation Service, which is leading the investigation; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Forest Preserve police are working in cooperation with the federal agencies and other local authorities.

Forest Preserve officials are taking every necessary precaution to secure the site and to protect the public, the statement said. Independence Grove will reopen when authorities deem the area safe.
