College Park Chevron latest victim of violent ATM robbery

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -

The third report of an ATM stolen from a metro Atlanta business came in just as many days. Police officers responded to reports of an ATM robbery at a Chevron station in College Park.

This time, thieves struck at the Global Gateway Chevron service station located in the 2400 block of Riverdale Road. It happened about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, when three males crashed a black pick-up truck through the entrance of the station's market area.

The impact of the crash dislodged the ATM from its secured spot, while also shattering glass and tearing through metal, dry wall and more. No injuries were reported in the crash.

The suspects loaded the ATM into their pick-up truck and fled the scene.

Police and detectives were both on scene to review the robbery, while a fire crew showed up to check the structural integrity of the building. Surveillance footage shows the truck plow into the store.

Owners of the service station told FOX 5 Atlanta's Carolyn Ryan that the damage done to their building would cost them about $3,000 a day until they can get it repaired. Meanwhile, police have not confirmed how much money was inside of the stolen ATM.

Authorities recovered a Dodge Ram pick-up truck they suspect was used in the robbery in the parking lot of an Atlantic Station Target store. Detectives say the same truck was used in an robbery at a Edgewood Avenue hair store last week.

The owner of the hair store, Dennis McKinley, said the July 2 break-in has paralyzed his business.

"That was a big week for us, July 4th week," said McKinley.

Authorities have not yet linked those two robberies to two others that happened in the last two days.

On Tuesday, Atlanta police say six men crashed a white Dodge Caravan into a storefront at Sweet Auburn Curb Market on Edgewood Avenue in southeast Atlanta. They stole an entire ATM, loading it into a waiting truck and driving off with it.

The day before, Atlanta police discovered an ATM break-in while responding to a triggered alarm at the BP service station in the 1600 block of Ponce de Leon Avenue.
