CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A U.S. Postal Service driver was charged with misdemeanor DUI after crashing his truck on the Near West Side on Friday.

Thomas Hackney crashed his 2001 mail truck in the 300 block of North Ashland at about 3 p.m. Friday.

Hackney is still employed with the postal service, but it is conducting its own investigation into the crash, said spokesman Mark Reynolds.

"His [job] status will be determined after the investigation," Reynolds said.
