Uprise in Egypt, virtual gastric band hypnosis, Avril Lavigne gets hitched: Chat Room

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

In Thursday's Chat Room, Sun-Times Splash Editor Susanna Negovan joined Good Day's Anna Davlantes to discuss a variety of topics, including the uprise in Egypt, a teacher who was hypnotized into losing weight, Avril Lavigne's wedding, and old Life Magazine photos documenting America in the 40's.

On America's day of independence, Egyptians celebrated in Cairo after Mohammed Morsi was ousted as president Wednesday. The state department is ordering all non-essential U.S. diplomats and their families to get out of the country because of anticipated violence.

"Unfortunately they got someone else who many people consider another dictator, so now they get another chance and we're watching this huge thing unfold," Negovan said of the situation.

On to a lighter topic -- A teacher in England went to some surprising lengths to lose weight. 27-year-old Danielle Davies got hypnotized in order to get in shape. Danielle was first hypnotized by into believing that she had a gastric band fitted around her stomach, and then she was hypnotized into exercising and feeling like she enjoyed doing it.

Since the hypnosis, Danielle has lost 70 pounds and exercises 30 to 60 minutes everyday.

So, would you try it? Both ladies said they would.

"It seems healthy enough, if it's just a mind-over-matter kinda thing," Davlantes said. "There is a mental component to losing weight."

In entertainment news, punk rocker Avril Lavigne walked down the aisle on Monday in an unusual wedding gown. The singer married Nickelback's Chad Kroeger in a black wedding dress with a bouquet of black roses to match.

The gown was designed by Monique Lhuillier. Chad matched Avril's dress, wearing all black himself.

"Now it seems a lot less shocking," Negovan said of Avril's dress choice. "The thing at weddings today is to do something weird and to personalize it. The traditional wedding as we know it, I think, is gone."
