6 injured by falling tree while leaving funeral

Six people were hurt Tuesday afternoon when a tree fell on them as they were leaving a funeral service at a South Side church.

The incident happened about 12:30 p.m. in the 8400 block of South Maryland Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs.

The six were walking out of a church following a funeral service, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

A woman in the office at the Harvey Memorial Community Church at 8400 S. Maryland said what "a big limb" from a tree fell as a funeral service was letting out. The tree was in front of the church, she said.

Four people were taken to hospitals in good condition and two others in serious to fair condition, Fire Media said. Their genders and ages were not immediately available.
