Boat found sunk, leaking fuel at marina

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man who launched his new boat for the first time this weekend had his sailing dreams shipwrecked when officials found it submerged and leaking fuel Monday morning.

Lake County Sheriff's officers discovered the boat, still tied to a slip in a marina at the Lake County Forest Preserve at 28455 W. Roberts Road in Port Barrington, at 10:30 a.m., Wauconda Fire Division Chief Al Schlick said.

Booms, floating barriers used to absorb petroleum, were used to clean up the fuel spill, which partially spread to the Fox River, Schlick said.

No one was injured and the cause of the boat sinking was being investigated.
