This week, I want to dedicate my blog to Atlanta's very own Peachtree Road Race. Thursday will mark my very first experience with this July 4th tradition! Of course, all of my co-workers have covered it before, or a couple have actually run it, too!

I've spent some time in the sports bunker reading and watching some awesome stories of the athletes who run in the Peachtree, and they are all are very inspiring. Some of these stories are of people who have run in this race every year for the past 40 years, others who have come back to run it after a major setback medically. What gets me excited and pumped about covering it this year (besides the 2 a.m. wake up call, haha), is that we still don't know what stories we'll get to tell!

I asked a couple of my bunker-mates - Ken Rodriguez and Cody Chaffins - what their favorite memories are of the Peachtree Road Race.

K-Rod said his best Peachtree Road Race memory was one that was run more than a decade ago:

"The Peachtree Road Race and the 4th of July never fail to get my red, white and blue blood pumping, but never more than on July 4, 2002 - the first Peachtree Road Race after 9/11.   The nation was still a little antsy about large gatherings, but I remember once race day came, I, and 50,000 of my closest friends gave those who would seek to do us harm a mass In Your Face!"

A native to Atlanta, Cody has run the race a few times, and will run it again on Thursday. He says his favorite memories of the race are standing inside Colony Square and watching his mom run. Cody also says he'll never forget the first time he ran the Peachtree back in 2004, his freshman year of college.

I'm looking forward to creating some memories myself on the 4th of July. Normally, my festivities on this day have included a beach trip, good food and seeing a fireworks display at night. This year will be different, though.

This is where YOU come in! I want to know, what are some things YOU think I should look out for while covering the Peachtree Road Race this year? Are there certain spots I should make a pit-stop at while the athletes are running their way through the 6.2 mile course? What are YOUR favorite memories of the Peachtree Road Race? I want to hear 'em all! I am excited to see you all out there on the 4th of July. Please make sure to say hi. :)

Last week, I had the opportunity to finally cover THE circus. Yes, THE SEC Media Days. College football really gets my juices flowing, and I couldn't wait to get to Hoover, Alabama.
