Dr. Mike Talks About Darren Daulton's Bad News

PHILADELPHIA -

Sad news has surfaced for former Phillies catcher Darren Daulton.

The public learned Thursday that the leader of the 1993 pennant-winning Phils has two brain tumors.

To help explain what this means, the University of Pennsylvania's Dr. Mike Cirigliano joined FOX29's Mike Jerrick and Sheinelle Jones live on "Good Day Philadelphia" Friday.

A statement from 97.5-FM "The Fanatic" said "Dutch" had not been feeling well for a few weeks before.

He was also apparently having some problems speaking, according to a "Good Day" interview earlier Friday morning with fellow radio show host Tony Bruno.

That's when the two tumors were found.

Brain tumor symptoms include headaches, seizures, memory loss or personality change, difficulty speaking and weakness, Dr. Mike said.

"The treatment is, start off with surgery, get that tumor out of there, get as much out of there as you possibly can," Dr. Mike said. "Depending on how much they get out, radiation, chemotherapy, depending on what it is. Let's hope it's a low-grade thing. Let's hope it's not a big deal. Let's get him fixed up, back in shape."
