DALTON, Ga. -

A Dalton man died when he inadvertently wound up in the middle of a love triangle.  Police say he gave a couple of friends a place to stay, and died for his good deed.

Deputies say by all indications, Horace Morgan was trying to defend himself and a female friend when he was confronted by her ex-boyfriend.  It was a violent escalation of events which was recorded when he called 911 for help.

Skid marks are still visible from a deadly confrontation at Morgan's home.

The 911 audio tape reveals how Morgan, 54, tried to defend himself.  Investigators say 43-year-old Frank Scott Bozzie arrived at Morgan's home in an apparent jealous rage over his ex-girlfriend. A neighbor told FOX 5 that Morgan had let her stay there, and was watching her two children while the woman and a new boyfriend were at breakfast.

According to the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office, the woman and her new boyfriend were in the drive-thru at a McDonalds restaurant when Bozzie saw them and rammed their vehicle.  Authorities say after the confrontation, both vehicles left and went to Morgan's house.

Investigators say shortly after Bozzie arrived, Morgan-- who was not involved in the earlier confrontation at the McDonalds-- called for help.

Dispatcher: Whitfield County 911
Morgan: Yes sir, yes sir. I need a police car right now. 504 Gay Street.
Dispatcher: 504 what?
Morgan: My house, he's rammed my car.

Dispatcher: What's going on?
Morgan: This guy, coming in here, raising Cain and everything. Broke into my damned house, started knocking the dog out of me.
Dispatcher: What's this over?
Morgan: A girl.

The sheriff's office says as squad cars were speeding to Morgan's home, he was trying to defend himself.

Morgan: Here he comes threatening again.
Dispatcher: Tell him, tell him that you're calling police.
Morgan: I got to protect myself somehow. Here he is officer. I got to protect myself some kind of how.

Investigators say Bozzie ran over Morgan. He was arrested a short distance away, and is being held at the Whitfield County Jail. He is charged with murder, aggravated assault, battery, first degree criminal damage to property and reckless driving.

Morgan leaves behind several adult children.  His family told FOX 5 they did not want to comment on the tragic loss of their father.
