SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Gracious and humble British import Henry Cavill takes on the biggest role of his career playing Superman and Clark Kent in "Man of Steel".

Fox 2's Lee Thomas recently sat down with Cavill for a one-on-one interview.

Thomas to Cavill: Talk about respecting what has come before you, other actors, a comic book franchise, I could say all that and then say it means a lot of pressure, but how did you respect that in your own way?

Cavill to Thomas: It's so important to do justice to the legacy. A lot of people put a lot of their life's work into that, and to not look into that and not try and respect the character as much as possible would be a terrible thing, and so that was very important to me. I just wanted to do justice to the character that I read in the comic books, and, yes, that is pressure, but it's the same pressure as any other job. It's just it means a lot more to other people. I'll always apply that same pressure onto myself because I want to do every job to the best of my ability, no matter what it is.

Thomas to Cavill: Now this is a big movie, a lot of promotions for it. You wake up, you're brushing your teeth, you flip on the TV, the promo happens, what do you do?

Cavill to Thomas: I laugh and smile and think it's awesome. It's kind of uncanny. Like I'm seeing it happen a lot more now. I'll be watching whatever on TV and a commercial comes on, it's like, aw, man, that's so cool.

Thomas to Cavill: What do you want them to know about Henry?

Cavill to Thomas: I want them to know that I always try to be a good guy. I try to do the best, and maybe everyone tries that. I don't get it right all the time, but the intention's always good.

"Man of Steel" opens Friday. It is rated PG-13.
