DETROIT (WJBK) -

Gunshots rang out during a candlelight vigil for a Detroit murder victim on the city's southwest side. Police are now searching for the shooter, who killed a 27-year-old man.

"When I looked down the street, I saw someone laying down and people starting to cry and holler and everything," said neighbor Thomas Barnes.

"I just heard a lot of gunshots. We hear gunshots, but I haven't ever heard them that close," said neighbor Eddie Demings.

Sunday evening on the 3100 block of Edsel Street, an entire neighborhood gathered to remember 20-year-old Tyrone Johnson, who was found just the day before shot and killed on Francis Street.

"It was just a stupid robbery thing," Johnson's grandmother said. "If they were just going to rob him, they didn't have to kill him."

At Sunday's vigil, police said about 200 people were in attendance remembering Johnson.

"I was going into my house, and somebody said, 'Duck, duck, duck, that's them,'" Johnson's grandmother said.

Witnesses said an innocent bystander playing basketball and not even attending the vigil was shot in the head. That man, known to friends as Tony Booker, a father of twins, later died at Henry Ford Hospital.

"We are glad that only that one person got hurt because it could've been a lot more people hurt," Johnson's grandmother said.

"Kids were out on the street at the time," Barnes said. "These guys were out here shooting like it was wild, wild west."

No suspects are in custody in either shooting.
