Troy police investigate report of preschool sex assault

TROY, Mich. (WJBK) -

Authorities say they are investigating the possible sexual assault of a child at a preschool in an Oakland County church.

Troy police were notified of the alleged incident by a parent last month. Officers notified Child Protective Services, which sent letters to parents of children who have attended the facility at St. Augustine Lutheran Church.

Church officials have declined comment, but a statement is expected to be released Thursday.

Troy police Chief Robert Redmond says officers are interviewing current and former employees and volunteers. "I would like to remind everyone that these types of investigations are very sensitive, and very private," said Redmond. "They take considerable time to investigate properly. We will assuredly protect the identity of all involved in this matter."

He declined to provide any details about possible suspects or victims.

No charges have been filed.
