CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Chicago Bears player was ticketed for driving under the influence of alcohol downtown early Friday.

Evan Rodriguez was stopped about 3:30 a.m. on the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) near Hubbard Street, Illinois State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said.

Rodriguez was ticketed for DUI, speeding and improper lane usage, Bond said. He was then released.

The Bears issued a brief statement about the arrest. "We are aware of the reports regarding Evan Rodriguez. We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the situation."

Rodriguez, 24, a tight end/fullback, played in 12 games last season and had four catches for 21 yards.

Given their history, last season sure was an odd one for the Chicago Bears. Just as they finally managed to get things right on offense, their defense pulled off quite a disappearing act. Well, it's back. At least, the Bears think it's back.

The Chicago Bears know who's backing up starting quarterback Jay Cutler. Now they'd like to know their defense is backing up their offense.
