Man tried to kidnap boy near North Side Bell Elementary: Alert

Police have released an artist's sketch of a man who tried to abduct a 10-year-old boy from a North Side elementary school last Wednesday.

About 3:20 p.m. last Wednesday, the man approached a boy outside Bell Elementary School in the 3700 block of North Oakley Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan said. The man told the boy his mother was sleeping and he would take him home.

The boy ran away, and the man walked away, Sullivan said.

The suspect is described as a black man with a dark complexion, 5-foot-6 and 150 pounds, between 25-35 years old, with a skinny to medium build,short black hair and brown eyes, an alert from Area North detectives said. He had gold-colored braces on his teeth and was last seen wearing a blue Cubs baseball cap with a red "C" backwards on his head, a short-sleeved black shirt, light-colored blue jeans and Velcro-style black and blue flip-flops, the alert said.
