Cook County inmates take on Russian prisoners in chess match

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

It was check-mate for nearly a dozen Cook County inmates Wednesday as they took on Russian detainees in an online chess tournament.

The inmates made their moves using secured laptops, but in the end, the Russian inmates beat their American counterparts 14 matches to 5, with one tie.

Sheriff Thomas Dart launched the chess program last year with the goal of instilling life skills in the inmates.
