RIVERSIDE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An intoxicated man fell on his elderly mother, breaking her hip in three places, Thursday in west suburban Riverside.

Officers were called about 4 p.m. to a home in the 200 block of Millbridge Road and found an 81-year-old woman on the kitchen floor that wasn't able to stand, Riverside police said.

The woman told officers her 55-year-old son had been drinking heavily when they began arguing, Riverside police said. The intoxicated man fell on his mother, pinning her to the kitchen floor.

The man had passed out on top of his mother, who laid on the floor for "an extended period of time" before she could summon relatives who called police for help, Riverside police said.

The woman was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Riverside police said. She immediately had surgery on her hip, which was broken in three places. An implant pin was inserted to connect the fragments of her hip. She may later require surgery to install a metal plate.

Her son, Robert Golba was extremely combative with police and had to be restrained when he was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn for alcohol poisoning, Riverside police said.

Golba served a year in prison for violating an order of protection, which was renewed upon his release and stipulated that he was not allowed in the home, where he lived with his mother, while under any type of drug or alcohol, Riverside police said.

Golba was charged Sunday with one count of felony violation of an order of protection, Riverside police said.
