Phillies Send Halladay To Disabled List With Inflamed Shoulder

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Just when you thought the Phillies season hit rock bottom, Sunday happened.

Not only did the Phils lose the final two games of their series with the Miami Marlins, they lost starting pitcher Roy Halladay to an injury.

Halladay has been placed on 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, the Phillies announced Monday afternoon.

In just two-and-one-thirds-innings pitched Sunday, "Doc" gave up nine earned runs to one of the worst teams in baseball. He walked four and hit a batter twice. The offense struggled to score once again, as well, helping the Marlins to win 14-2.

In his last two starts, Halladay has given up 17 runs.

After the game, Halladay finally admitted his shoulder is not feeling right.

He's flying to Los Angeles to see Dr. Lewis Yocum on Tuesday concerning his sore shoulder.

Now, the Phillies are preparing for Halladay's absence on the staff.

Left-hander Joe Savery has been recalled from the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for Monday night's game.

As far as the pitching two possibilities for Halladay's spot in the rotation, both are right now at AAA Lehigh Valley.

Tyler Cloyd is just 1-3, while Adam Morgan is 1-2. One of them should be called up for the start Friday night in Arizona.

There's no word yet on how long Halladay will be out, but FOX 29's Howard Eskin said he would think 30 days is the best scenario, and the worst is his Phillies career is over.

Halladay has been sore for two weeks and didn't tell his manager, the doctors or his general manager. So, Eskin asked, with the offense another issue, and the pitching being a problem, should the Phillies start to trade veterans like Chase Utley to get young players?

The team has all kinds of decisions to make coming up in the next 30 to 60 days.

The Phillies open a series tonight in San Francisco against the Giant, and fortunately Cliff Lee pitched them to a win.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
