Crews work to remove downed tree in midtown Atlanta

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Several residents in midtown were without power for a short time when a falling tree snapped a power pole in half late Sunday night.

Emergency crews are working to clear the downed tree on 5th Street at Juniper Street. They say a huge oak tree fell down, and the weight of the tree brought down power lines, and snapped a power pole in half.

Georgia Power crews say downed trees have been reported as far south as Jonesboro.

Officials say around 40 residents in the area were without power due to the incident, but it has since been restored. The intersection will remain blocked for several hours while crews work to remove debris from the fallen tree.
