Broad Street Runners Show Support For Boston

Posted: Updated:

From the moment of silence led by a red socks wearing Mayor Michael Nutter--

"Think of them, think of us,  think about what it means to be an American," Mayor Nutter

said as heads bowed.

To the continuous loop of Boston's unofficial anthem "Sweet Caroline" at the starting line.

This year's Blue Cross Broad Street Run was an ode to Boston from Philly with

love.

"Anything can happen and it will get better," said runner Daijon Reason.

"This is about Philly spirit," said Nutter.  The Boston spirit and American spirit we will not be deterred  by acts of terrorism violence."

About 40,000 thousand people pounded 10 miles of pavement during the 34th annual Broad Street Run. Thousands of them wearing red socks while others  sported stickers and shirts showing solidarity with Boston.

"I'm  just happy to support Boston," said runner Josh Harrah. "It's a love letter from Philly to Boston."

Love was definitely in the air for Preet Joshi.

He crossed the finish line in a suit, raced straight over to his

family to grab roses and a ring, then dropped onto bended knee where he proposed to his

fiancee Monica Montoya.
