Savannah man critical after being hit by pickup

Posted: Updated:

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A 60-year-old Savannah man is hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck.

Savannah-Chatham County police said Saturday that Daniel Sweeney walked into the path of the oncoming Dodge Ram truck late Friday on Bull Street near Washington Avenue.

The driver of the truck, Kevin Frazier, told police he tried swerving to avoid Sweeney but he kept walking toward the truck. Police say the driver slammed on his brakes and the truck spun counter-clockwise before it came to a stop on top of the pedestrian.

Sweeney was taken to Memorial University Medical Center. Police are still investigating the collision.
