TOCCOA, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say three people are dead after an overnight crash between a car and a passenger train in northern Georgia.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley says three people in the car were killed late Friday when the Amtrak train crashed into the smaller vehicle at about 60 mph at an unprotected railroad crossing. The car overturned in a ravine and caught fire.

Sheriff Shirley tells FOX 5 News that the victims were a man and two women in their 20s from Austell. Shirley says their names are being withheld pending notification of family.

Shirley says the crash happened at a crossing marked only by a stop sign in Toccoa, about 96 miles northeast of Atlanta. He says no one was injured on the train, which was traveling to Washington from New Orleans.
