Woman killed by intoxicated driver identified

WHEATON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The woman killed in a car crash Thursday night near west suburban Wheaton has been identified.

She was the passenger in an SUV Karlos Leath, 31, was driving south on Shaffner Road when he left the roadway and rolled the 2003 Ford Explorer over near Mack Road in unincorporated DuPage County about 10:30 p.m., according to a release from the DuPage County Sheriff's office.

Stephanie Pickett, 18, of Warrenville, was taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries, according to the DuPage County coroner's office.

Leath, also of Warrenville, was charged with two counts of aggravated DUI in an accident causing death, according to the DuPage Sheriff's website.

Judge Elizabeth Sexton set bond at $1 million for Leath Friday morning, according to Paul Darrah, a spokesman for the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.

Leath is next scheduled to appear in court May 20.
